This Season So Far

19/5/2010

My season has been a shambles to date, with one exception.  For some reason I don't feel as prepared as I usually do, I haven't tied as many flies since the season started as I usually do although I did tie more during the winter than I have recently and I just haven't felt really confident on the water.  I crashed and burned in the National and have one miserable point from 2 outings with the B&B.  The only bright spot was the Lexus with the Fish Hawks, which is covered elsewhere.  The funny thing is I don't really seem to be bothered by it all too much and have actually quite enjoyed my days out, despite the lack of fish (and the cold, sometimes).   I suppose events of the winter and more recently put things into perspective, or maybe I'm just getting less competitive.  I might even be looking forward to retirement!  So, anyone want some flies tied for them? I will have more time on my hands next winter....
I am now looking forward to the end of the month, pulling blobs and boobies like a madman at Frandy and then doing a bit of nymphing at the Lake on 31 May and 4 Jun, before heading off to Grafham in early June to try and qualify for next year's National through the Fish Hawks because, let's face it, I'm not going to do that with the B&B!  Oh, and good luck to Paul in tomorrow's National heat at the Lake.

It would be remiss of me not to say well done to Scotland on winning the Spring Home International at Loch Conn.  The Scotland team was captained by John Buchanan, well known to many B&B members.  It was hard going, there were lots of fish caught which did not measure, but the Scots did enough to win.  And it was wholly Catch and Release, which is brilliant to see on a wild Brown Trout water.  John - well done again.  The full results are here.
